- Amanda, hi.
-
- You and I are in the same boat.
-
- I just bought a Comstar 620, and have found it works fine except for
- the distinctive ring feature.
-
- I am also in Canada (Montreal).
-
- If you contact Zoom they may try to send you to Bitware. Don't bother
- -- it is a hardware problem. I'm afraid software won't be able to
- help us -- the modem simply fails to detect Ring 2 (the short-short
- pattern) and perhaps others. (I have only one extra number)
-
- To see this for yourself, go into a terminal program and type
- AT-SDR=7, which should enable all 3 types of dist. ring detection.
-
- Call in on one of your "distinctive" numbers.
-
- What =I= see in this case is "Ring 1" for my normal number, and "Ring
- 1" reported =twice= for my second number.
-
- I spent lots of $$ on long distance to Zoom yesterday. They were
- pleasant, but essentially clueless in that they could offer nothing
- more than an explanation of the manual, which was something I didn't
- really need.
-
- If you call Zoom (or email or whatever) they =will= send you a new ROM
- chip, which =may= address this, but I very much doubt it.
-
- And for what it's worth, this =is= a Zoom problem. I have a ZyXEL
- modem as well that does distinctive ring. =It= has no problem
- detecting the type 2 ring cadence here in Montreal.
-
- Sigh.
-
- Please let me know if you come up with a solution for this.
-
- Thanks,
-
- Owen.
